    Memory Game

Here's a great way to use the Talk Time Cards, taken from 50 Sparkling Ideas - Using Talk Time Cards in the Primary Classroom

A Sparkling Idea for: practising audio memory and matching skills in a fun way.

    You will need:

    • Talk Time Cards, laid out in a grid

    What you do...

Record matching sounds onto pairs of cards and then mix them up in the grid, leaving all of them blank. As in the well established turn-over-the-cards format, children need to match up the pairs again by playing the sounds and remembering their position but there is plenty more fun to be had in this original version. The pairs could be two identical sounds ('cow' and 'cow'), two sounds with the same theme ('cow' and 'Moo' or 'cow' and 'la vache') or a picture and a sound, the possibilities are endless!

"What a brilliant resource - every pupil should have one! For my dyslexic pupils the uses are endless - storing instructions or messages, dictating key ideas, practicing phonemes, recording homework ... it's a speaking aide-memoir to support poor memory. Like so many of the best ideas, it's simple but invaluable."

    Alison Haines
Advisory Teacher for Literacy Difficulties, Islington

"I've used on the Talk Time Cards on my classroom displays for 'Words of the Week' so that children can hear the words as well as read them. This really helps children with learning and remembering. They are a great classroom resource!"

    Beverley Smalley
Reception and Year 1 Teacher, Warninglid Primary School, Warninglid, Sussex

"... it is really engaging: I have shown it to many people who never fail to be excited and want to play immediately, whether adults or children. They are such open-ended resources, they can be a powerful tool for any topic."

    Anna Fairhurst
    ICT Consultant

"The range of sizes make them ideal for talking displays, interactive science learning and helps to prevent learnt helplessness. All teachers and children we have used them with have been quick to comment on their effectiveness. They are also easy and fun to use. Pity we did not have these years ago!"
